About Us

The Mikilaaq Centre is owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corporation of Churchill-Hudson Bay. As the vision for the Centre developped, more time and energy was needed to manage the emerging programs and projects.

Presently three voluteers with the diocese work full time at the Centre and oversee all programs and projects. Staff are hired through government funding to run the drop-in. Many others volunteer their time and energy both for the drop-in and the various projects organized by the Centre.

Our mission is to seek and fulfill God's will in our life.

Lynne S. Rollin

Lynne S. Rollin

Lynne is of French-Canadian origin, raised in St-Pascal Baylon, thirty miles east of Ottawa. After studying journalism for one year, she did a short summer stint in Eskimo Point (now Arviat), in the summer of 1981 and promised to come back one day.

She returned North in the fall of 1984, this time with her friend Joanne Dionne. The girls signed a one year contract with late Bishop Robidoux, although he insisted they committed for three. Joanne left the diocese some nine years later, (five spent in Chesterfield Inlet) to join Madonna House.

Lynne remained. Her work evolved from religious education for children to ‘pastoring’ as the resident priest returned to France. After several years in that position, she has gladly handed over those responsibilities and now focuses her energy on the publishing of the Northern Bloom newsletter and other material for Adult Faith Education.

She continues to oversee the running of the Mikilaaq Centre. This includes securing funding from various sources to run the drop-in and the production of religious material that is more culturally sensitive. She also presently sits on the executive board of the Western Catholic Conference of Religious Educators and on the National Advisory Committee of Adult Catechesis. Lynne considers herself at home in Arviat. She is seen here with Ballum, her little princess.

Nadine Lamoureux

Nadine Lamoureux

Nadine was born and raised in Ile-des-Chenes just south of Winnipeg. She came to Arviat in the summer of 1997 for a week long youth session organized by the St. Malo Catholic School of Evangelization, which she was attending at that time. She came back in January 1998 after working a few months in The Pas, Manitoba.

Nadine has become a master of all as she juggles many tasks in Arviat. She enjoys visiting people and playing with children and has, in that capacity, worked at the drop-in and summer camps run by the Mikilaaq Centre. In her first two years, Nadine helped produce the Northern Bloom and has contributed some amazing posters and booklets to our collection of religious material. She takes more than her turn in the kitchen cooking fabulous meals for the crew. She is a prayer person who often reminds us the importance of starting and finishing our day in the right space.

Nadine has become an avid photographer and has supplied many incredible shots to our collection. She is spending a lot of time identifying our photographs and hopes to continue learning new skills. Nadine also contributes her musical talents to our prayer time. She continues to help manage the drop-in and run our many errands.
